Forest School at Blenheim Palace

By Cait Sweeney at

New Head of Education Ian Wainwright has introduced a new school at Blenheim Palace – Forest School.

The Forest School is free for all ticket holders and offers a drop-in session every Wednesday, 10.30am – 2.30pm, for little ones to get involved in all the Great Estate at Blenheim Palace.

Launching on 4 July this enriched experience is the opportunity for an outdoor adventure and for children to engage with the incredible nature on the ‘Capability’ Brown estate.

Children are encouraged to come regularly to the Forest School to develop their creative learning through fun activities and play.

Take part in a range of activities and discover a secret world of minibeast safaris, trees climbing, forest craft, den building, and pond dipping. Sessions will combine of exploring nature and outdoor adventure and take place at our lake side family forest school site close to the Palace.

All sessions are run by qualified and experienced Forest School Leader and allow children to develop new skills and creative thinking through outdoor activities.

Ian Wainwright, Head of Education says: “I am delighted to be launching this enriching experience at Blenheim Palace. The landscape, wildlife and nature are incredibly diverse on the Estate and are a marvellous resource for outdoor learning for all ages.”

He continues “Our free Wednesday drop in sessions are designed for younger children to begin with – although all ages are welcome. The free sessions can be booked in at the Flagstaff Entrance in advance and on the day. I am passionate about offering education across a range of subjects at Blenheim – and the outdoors is one that we haven’t offered before.”

Drop-in sessions included in Park and Garden tickets or annual passes.

Sessions are daytime term time so targeted at pre-schoolers and early years ages up to 5yrs.

Sessions are designed for parents and carers to play and explore with their children (all children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the session)

Please report to the kiosk in front of the palace to sign in and be directed to the forest school site.
