A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Oxford Playhouse

By Sarah Edwards

You’ve still got time to see this dream of a play; Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, which has its final curtain at the Oxford Playhouse this Saturday 19 May 2018

The Lyric Hammersmith and Filter Theatre’s riotous reinterpretation of one of Shakespeare’s best loved plays, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, comes to Oxford Playhouse in May. Featuring original live music, this classic tale of young lovers and warring fairies is given a unique and irreverent twist.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is arguably Shakespeare’s most fun play – packed full of mischievous fairies, matchmaking gone awry and music aplenty. This production takes all that fun and throws in stand-up comedy, live rock music and superheroes to boot.

Originally staged in 2012, it was revived by the lyric in 2016 and has toured across the world, to rave reviews.

The unique and irreverent twist to this classic tale of young lovers and warring fairies makes it the ideal show for Shakespeare novices or die-hard fans, and is the perfect introduction to Shakespeare for teenagers.

Don’t miss one of the most exciting and inventive Shakespeare productions of recent years and is picking up some rave reviews including;
“Slapstick, Magic and Mayhem” from The Guardian, “Quite Brilliant” Independent on Sunday and
“Filter’s dream is part rock gig, part exuberant joke, exploding the conventions of the form and remaking them in dazzling new shapes” Metro
