Cowley Road Carnival Needs Volunteers

By Sarah Edwards

Your opportunity to help organise and deliver the region’s award-winning and most colourful community culture event
This year’s Cowley Road Carnival will take place on 1 July and the event needs 100 or more volunteers to help with the smooth running of the day itself, as well as other activities and supporting events on the run up to the big day.

Hannah Murray, who is coordinating the volunteers said: “The Cowley Road Carnival is one of the most spectacular events and biggest community cultural events in the region.

“We need plenty of help for lots of different tasks and roles. From helping to organise some of our pre-Carnival events and fundraisers to setting up and breaking down on Carnival Day, stewarding the procession, organising traders, decorating the street, photography, film and social media communications.

“Volunteers will join the team and be helping to organize Oxfordshire’s most fantastic festival of the year, as well as have a lot of fun.”

Regular volunteers who have already signed up include a group from Emmanuel Church, who are supporting Carnival with help again this year. Robert Grayson, from the church and a regular volunteer for Carnival said: “What a great way to love your neighbourhood.”

Cowley Road Works receives funding from Oxford City Council and Arts Council England. However, further financial support is necessary. CRW is asking carnival-goers to each donate £1 to help towards the costs of organising the event.
