The North Wall announces the world premiere of Fragment

By John Charlton

The North Wall has announced the world premiere of Fragment, a co-production with double Fringe First award-winning theatre company, Iron Shoes.

Fragment will be performed at Battersea Arts Centre in London on 14 & 15 May and from 16 to 19 May at The North Wall Arts Centre in Oxford.

Co-Directors of The North Wall, John Hoggarth and Ria Parry, collaborate with composer and Kneehigh Associate Dom Coyote, and Iron Shoes associate designers James Button and David W Kidd on this new piece of gig-theatre about love, loss and heartache.

Set in Redcar, against the backdrop of the collapse of the steel industry, Fragment takes the audience on a musical voyage through the life of Lester Fall, a painter and decorator returning home to face his demons, and attempting to put back together the pieces of a broken heart.

The production features original songs of redemption and recovery written and performed by acclaimed composer Dom Coyote, last seen playing the role of Oskar in Kneehigh’s Tin Drum.

Fragment is the first in-house co-production presented by The North Wall’s newly-appointed co-directors, Ria Parry and John Hoggarth, who came into post in November 2017. It marks a new chapter in The North Wall’s ten year history, with a commitment to co-producing or producing at least one new production each year, with the aim of touring North Wall productions from 2019 onwards.

Ria and John say ‘We are thrilled to be making Fragment with Dom Coyote, one of the most exciting musicians and makers working in UK theatre. Fragment was first developed at The North Wall under its superb artist development programme. As the venue’s new Co-Directors we’re delighted to present the show’s world premiere, marking a new producing chapter for The North Wall.’
