The ninth annual Careers Fest, run by Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP) Skills Team, is taking place at MINI Plant Oxford on 6 & 7 February 2018. The event has grown year on year, with this year’s event bringing together over 50 employers and training organisations representing career choices from an array of industries. The event is open to all schools and colleges across the county, giving hundreds of young people the chance to consider future careers and gain an invaluable insight into different opportunities.
In previous years, the event has only been open to school groups but for the first time this year, there will be a special open session from 4 to 7pm on 6 February. This session is open to members of the public and will enable parents, carers and family members to attend.
Visitors to Careers Fest will have the opportunity to:
•Talk to over 50 employers, further education colleges, universities and training providers
•Meet Apprentices and other employees and ask all your questions about starting out in the world of work
•Get information and advice on future paths and careers from a varied range of sectors
•Have a go at practical activities relating to different roles to get a feel for what a job entails
•Find out about the sorts of jobs and careers available locally
Sian Gibson, a teacher at Heyford Park Free School, attended Careers Fest 2017 with Year 10 students. She said “The students feel more motivated to get on and do independent research into job paths. There has been a lot of excitement from the students ranging from now knowing what they want to do in life to starting to think about how GCSE options link to jobs to simply getting out of school and talking in a formal setting with strangers.”
