Magical Soirée – Objects of Power and Beliefs at the Pitt Rivers Museum

The Pitt Youth Action Team will be staging an evening Takeover event at the Pitt Rivers Museum for visitors to explore the theme of magic. Visitors can explore an amazing range of objects of power and belief. Once amongst the display cases of the Museum be prepared to experience the Pitt Rivers as you have never done before.

The evening will include special projections, created by Pitt Youth Action Team on the ceiling. A Halloween costume competition based on other peoples’ cultures and beliefs. Live music from local Oxford band ‘The Land Girls’. Expert object explainers will be on hand to explain the magical artefacts on display in the Museum and there will also be object handling. Find out about the meanings and importance of Tarot Cards as a tool for the spiritual traveller. Get messy in the potions room and make your own potion with fluorescent ingredients or write your own potion recipe. Become an expert ghost biscuit decorator and try fairy face painting.

The Pitt Youth Action Team is a group of young people aged between 14-19 who meet once a month to explore behind the scenes at the Museum and plan events for other young people. It is a joint initiative from Pitt Rivers Museum and OYAP Trust. OYAP is a charity that works with young people to help them reach their potential using creative activities as a tool to promote learning, growth and leadership.
