The 2017 World Poohsticks Championships, to be held on Sunday 4 June at Langel Common in Witney, will have a purple theme this year. This is to raise awareness of Rotary’s Purple4Polio campaign which is also being supported by Donovan, Alan Titchmarsh, Chris Tarrant, Ade Adepitan and Konnie Huq who all have different personal stories to tell but all are united in their passion to support the Rotary campaign.
There will be purple coloured Poohsticks for the first time, volunteers who are running the event will also be wearing purple items and there promises to be many other purple things to look out for. Registration for the Team Championships is now open and teams of four can enter via the website at www.pooh-sticks.com and organisers and other spectators are always delighted when teams come along in fancy dress. Individual registration is on the day from 12pm. Witney Music Festival will be providing entertainment for the second year running, Cogges Manor Farm which is located next to the Championships will also be open and there will be stalls providing entertainment, food and drinks. All profits raised are given to charities supported by the Rotary Club of Oxford Spires that organises the event and this will include the Purple4Polio campaign.
Katy Goodey, President of the Rotary Club of Oxford Spires explains, “As a Club within Rotary we are working tirelessly to ensure that Polio is eradicated for good and with just three remaining countries where polio is still endemic, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria we believe that we can rid the world of this deadly disease forever.”
